Description:

Summer Discovery offers the world's most popular pre-college enrichment programs for pre-college students at 8 distinct college campuses. Choose from over 300 programs and courses from 3-6 weeks in an environment that is intellectually stimulating, culturally and socially enriching, and fun. Enjoy great out-of-class activities, recreation and excursions. Be treated with the respect that you deserve, increasing self-esteem, confidence, and independence.

The University of Vermont, often cited as a public "ivy league" school, combines the diverse faculty, student body, and wide ranging curriculum found at a major state university with the caring, personalized education and student involvement usually found in a small, private liberal arts college. Founded 1791, the University boasts many notable achievements including: Vermont's largest library (1,000,000 volumes); the first University to admit students regardless of religion; first in New England to admit women; the twentieth college to be founded in the USA; and the greatest participation by students in community service activities in the nation. The popular rock group Phish was founded by four UVM freshmen in 1987.

The University of Vermont is situated on a scenic hillside overlooking Lake Champlain, the northeast's largest lake, and Burlington, Vermont's largest city and cultural mecca. Students enjoy spectacular views of the lake and New York's Adirondack Mountains to the west and Vermont's Green Mountains to the east. Downtown Burlington is within easy walking distance from central campus. The campus is also centrally located to numerous outdoor pursuits and famous New England sights including Stowe, Whiteface Mountain, Lake Placid, and the French culture of Montreal, Quebec.

CHRISTIE-WRIGHT-PATTERSON (CWP) All students live in Christie-Wright-Patterson, an impressive, ivy covered, red brick, residence hall located on the popular "Redstone" section of the UVM campus. Rooms are mostly doubles with limited quads and singles and feature study desks, ample drawer and study space, mainframe computer connections and private telephones. (Refrigerator and fan rentals are available). The residence hall is co-ed by floor or wing, with separate bath and shower facilities for men and women. Outstanding in-house facilities include a multiple station computer center with laser printers, television/VCR lounges, laundry rooms, game room, SUMMER DISCOVERY'S own academic and program offices, and a state-of-the-art workout and weight room. Just steps away from Christie-Wright-Patterson is UVM's indoor gym, Basketball courts, tennis courts, playing fields and an 18 hole golf course.
