Description: The Oxbow School places the visual arts at the center of its curriculum. The interdisciplinary, project-based curriculum focuses on a central theme addressed in academic and studio contexts. This approach satisfies the academic requirements of college-bound high school students while exposing them to college-level studio arts practice. The program thrives on adult interaction with students. A core faculty of experienced teachers is enhanced each semester by visiting artists and guest lecturers. The visiting artist program gives students the opportunity to collaborate with professional artists and to know them as friends and mentors. Studios are open on evenings and weekends, staffed by faculty, allowing students to get one-on-one help with coursework and art projects. The physical activity program is grounded in the belief that a lasting understanding of "healthy body=healthy mind" is best established during adolescence. On Monday and Wednesday afternoons, students participate in organized physical activities such as biking, kayaking, yoga, dance, and hiking. Oxbow owns several kayaks and mountain bikes for sports activities, but students are welcome to bring their own bicycles. The School encourages students to continue their own exercise routines during their free time and on weekends. |
