Description: 55 years ago a group of young educators and social workers at the University of Toronto recognized the values inherent in camping and outdoor education. In particular they were impressed by the increased self-esteem and pure fun that those involved achieved by working successfully with a group of peers in a variety of activities. Not only did campers and students have fun but they learned skills, shared experiences and made friends that would last a lifetime. With this in mind they initiated a day camp in Sherwood park in the north end of Toronto. Of course, the location spawned the name Camp Robin Hood and the story began. Over the years the camp has grown and since 1964 has been located on its own 50-acre site on Reesor Road in Markham just north of Major Mackenzie Drive. The last four decades have seen Camp Robin Hood develop its site into a recreational, sporting, and outdoor recreational complex, recognized as an exceptional facility, staffed with experienced leaders who provide quality programming in a beautiful rural setting. |
