Tamwood Camps – London Ontario - Huron University
Every summer Tamwood operates a summer camp for youth and teens in London Ontario at Huron University.
An important feature of all of Tamwood's camps is the international mix of its campers. Drawing campers from Europe, Asia, Mexico, USA, Canada and South America, Tamwood provides campers with an opportunity to learn about foreign people and cultures and to meet and make friends with young people from around the world.
London, Canada
Located just 1 hour and 40 minutes from the Toronto airport, and less than 1 hour from two of the Great Lakes, London is one of Canada's oldest and most beautiful cities. Know to many as the "Forest City" because of its abundant trees and parks, London is home to 400,000 residents, making it big enough to offer many attractions, yet small enough to be safe, friendly and easy to get around in.
CAMP ACTIVITIES
Tamwood Camps in London offers a camp for juniors, ages 7-12 and for teens, ages 13-17. Campers enjoy a busy program that combines English lessons with a wide variety of land and water sports, adventure and cultural activities and sightseeing excursions. In certain weeks, campers can choose to specialize in one instructional sports activity and take small group lessons in that activity 4 days of the week. Instructional activity options include: Tennis, Golf, Horse Riding and Soccer. Professional coaches at top training facilities in London give these specialized sports clinics.
FACILITIES
Huron University College is located in the north end of London on the edge of the University of Western Ontario. Huron is the University of Western Ontario’s founding college and is one of Canada’s most prestigious and established universities. The College has many facilities including classrooms, listening labs, computer labs, a dance studio, recreation room, a theatre and a cafeteria. The College shares major sports facilities with UWO including the main sports complex that houses gymnasiums, a swimming pool, a skating rink and courts for a variety of racquet sports.
Huron campus is located on 47 acres of woodland (including hiking/running trails). The Thames River runs through the university campus and a bicycle and walking trail runs along the river through campus and through several of the city’s parks to the city centre.
STAFF
All of the staff working at the Tamwood summer camp programs have been carefully selected for their enthusiasm, skills, experience and maturity. The English teachers are all qualified and experienced teachers. The activity leaders are all first aid certified and qualified to teach the activities they lead. Many of the activity leaders are university students and all of the staff love working with young people.
The camp runs for 6 weeks in July and August. Campers can come for 2, 3, 4 or 6 weeks.
