Description:

The Alaska SeaLife Center is expanding its summer camp opportunities to take campers on an exciting journey in the marine environment. Through hands-on activities, students will heighten their interest in the sciences and gain an appreciation for the natural environment. So come get your hands wet and join the fun!

The Alaska SeaLife Center is located in scenic Seward, Alaska, where the marine environment is never far away. Visitors to this premier research, wildlife rehabilitation, and public education center can see puffins fly in underwater skies and sea lions swim just inches away from their fingertips!

Discovery Day Camps

We are hosting six one-day camps this summer. Each day has a different theme, so come to one or all six! Each day will provide campers with a unique and exciting experience while learning about the marine environment of Alaska. Call for themes and dates

Ages: Grades 3 - 5 and 6 - 8 

 

Coastal Careers Camp

August 1- 6, 2004                  

Grades 9 - 12                                                                                                  

Gain unique hands-on experience helping scientists and animal trainers with their jobs throughout the Center! This 5-day residential camp is designed for students who are seriously thinking about a career in wildlife biology, fisheries, or marine animal care.  Campers will observe and help out in many areas of the SeaLife Center, including wildlife rehabilitation, marine mammal care, aquarium maintenance, preparing food for birds, and researching the endangered Steller sea lion, as well as field trips to other local facilities. The price includes room and board and instruction.

Waves & Whales Weekend Camps

Ages: Grades 3 - 5 and 6 - 8               

Sleep next to sea lions, try SCUBA gear, and experience a wildlife cruise. This residential weekend camp will take participants through a variety of hands-on activities that encourage curiosity and wonder in marine science and research. This exciting camp includes an overnight stay at the Alaska SeaLife Center, a Kenai Fjords boat cruise, marine crafts and interactive marine science classes.

Ocean Adventures Field Camp                                                                                                  July July 25 - 28, 2004                                                                                                          Grades grades 9 - 12                                                                                                          

Let’s go kayak camping! This 4-day / 3-night camp will bring students into the wild to learn about marine biology from the seat of a kayak. The adventure will start at the SeaLife Center where students will complete team-building exercises. Then students will head to Fox Island to set up a field research camp.   Time on the island will be spent paddling to different sites where students will complete several research-based activities, including helping ASLC divers with invertebrate collection, discovering life in tidepools, counting seabirds, using radio telemetry equipment, analyzing scat and much more. Evenings will be spent relaxing around a fire

 

Kid & Parent Camp

Dates: June 18-20, 2004

Cutoff Date: April 15, 2004

Age: 4th-6th graders and their parents

 

Explore all that Kenai Fjords has to offer with your kids! This 3-day/2-night camp is a collaboration between the Alaska SeaLife Center and Kenai Fjords National Park  Together with your child you will go on a behind-the-scenes tour of the SeaLife Center, explore Exit Glacier, and travel out on a Kenai Fjords Tour boat to see a tidewater glacier.  In the evenings you will camp out at Exit Glacier in the National Park and participate in evening campfires and night hikes.  Please register before our early cut-off date of April 15th.
