Description: ISLS has put together a fun and adventurous Spanish Summer Abroad Camp for teens in Costa Rica. Playa Dominical is located on the central Pacific coast of Costa Rica in the tropical rainforest. There are toucans in the trees, iguanas on the beach and monkeys in the forest surrounding the small pueblo of 800 permanent residents. The town is very safe and it is possible to walk from one end to the other in less than 15 minutes. The students will be housed in the resort, Villas Rio Mar, which is the nicest hotel/resort in the Dominical area. There are two students per bungalow, with four bungalows grouped together. Rio Mar has a full service restaurant, where many of the programs meals will be served. There is a large pool, tennis court, tropical gardens and every bungalow has at least one hammock. Students from ages 14 to 17 are eligible to participate in this 16 day program. There are three specific aspects to this program; Spanish classes, surf lessons and adventure activities. Spanish classes are taught be degreed local Costa Rican teachers who specialize in teaching Spanish as a second language. The surfing part of the program will be handled by professional instructors from the Dominical Surf School. There will be three two hour lessons where all those who want to learn how to surf will be instructed. Those students who experienced surfers will be shown the different breaks and the individual characteristics of the beach and surf. Instructors will take these students out and see that they get acquainted with their new surroundings. The adventure aspect of the program will be full of activities that are physically exciting and challenging. During the two and a half weeks of the program students will participate in all of the following: White water rafting on the Rio Reventezon, which is an amazing daylong trip down level two and three rapids. Zip lining through the forest canopy of the Hacienda Baru Nature Preserve. Horseback riding through the rainforest to one of the most magnificent waterfalls in all of Central America, the 280 foot high, three tiered Nayaca Falls. Snorkeling trip to Manuel Antonio National Park. Sea kayaking through the Marina Ballena National park. Canopy climbing to platforms high in the rainforest and then repelling down using mountain climbing gear. We have over 12 years of experience with students attending our programs in Costa Rica.
